CALEB SCHAFTLEIN,
Could you please provide us with a professional introduction about yourself and your photography work?
My name is Anna Cousseau, and I am a French photographer specializing in fashion and portrait photography. My work focuses on capturing elegance, emotion, and individuality through visually striking images that blend aesthetics with storytelling. Based between Nantes and La Rochelle, I collaborate with brands, designers, and artists to create unique and impactful visuals.
Can you tell us about how you got started in photography?
Photography has always been a passion of mine, but I decided to turn it into a career 6 years ago. I started by exploring street and portrait photography, which helped me develop my eye for composition and lighting. I was soon drawn to wedding and fashion photography because of its strong visual storytelling and creative possibilities.
What was your passion driving you during your journey? Who or what prompted you to begin?
My driving passion has always been storytelling through imagery—capturing emotions, moods, and personalities in a way that resonates with people. I was inspired by photographers like Annie Leibovitz, Paolo Roversi, Josselin, Theo Gosselin , as well as by cinema, art, and fashion itself.
Could you walk us through your photoshoot planning process?
Every shoot starts with an idea or a mood. I usually create a mood board with visual references, color palettes, and pose inspirations. Then, I collaborate with a creative team—including makeup artists, hair stylists and models—to bring the vision to life. Lighting and location are key aspects I carefully plan to ensure the final images align with my artistic direction.
As a photography expert, what sets your work apart from other photographers?
I believe my work stands out because of my attention to detail, my ability to bring out the personality of my subjects, and my use of light to enhance mood and atmosphere. I strive to create timeless yet modern imagery that blends fashion with emotion and storytelling.
Where do you get your ideas for photoshoots
I find inspiration everywhere—fashion editorials, art, cinema, music, and even everyday life. I also love working with creative teams because collaboration often leads to fresh, unexpected ideas.
What are the most important components of an extraordinary photograph, in your opinion?
A great photograph combines strong composition, compelling lighting, and authentic emotion. It should tell a story or evoke a feeling, making the viewer connect with it on a deeper level.
How do you strike a balance between your artistic expression and your client's expectations during a shoot?
I always ensure there’s a strong communication process before the shoot. I listen to my client's vision while also incorporating my own creative style. The key is to find a middle ground where both artistic expression and the client’s needs are met.
How do other artists influence your work? Are there any other photographers you look up to? Who?
I draw inspiration from many photographers, such as Kulesza&Pik duo or Hüseyin Kiliç, whose work I admire for its aesthetics, composition and colorimetry. Other artists from different fields, like painters - Rothko, Monet and filmmakers - Renata Litvinova, Timur Bekmambetov also influence my perspective on composition and color.
How do you enhance your vision after a session by post-processing your photos? Do you have a best-kept secret for editing processing that you'd like to share?
Post-processing is a crucial part of my workflow. I focus on color grading, contrast, and texture to bring out the mood I envisioned during the shoot. My secret? I always aim for a natural, polished look rather than over-editing—subtlety is key.
What are your top tips for aspiring photographers on skill development and finding their own creative voice? How did you develop yours?
Practice constantly, experiment with different styles, and study the work of great photographers. Over time, you’ll naturally develop your own creative voice. For me, it was a combination of experience, inspiration, and refining what I love most about photography.
What is your favorite piece of work you've ever shot? (Include links)
One of my favorite works is the '24 Campaign for my friend's brand, Obrazets. It perfectly represents my style and vision. Everything aligned seamlessly—from the model's attitude to the location and even the weather. Here’s the link:

Can you tell us the story behind creating the photographs you submitted?
The photographs I submitted are part of a conceptual series that explores identity, texture, and contrast. The idea behind these images was to create a fusion between fashion, portraiture, and storytelling by using rich, intricate patterns against a deep, moody background.
The model is wrapped in a textile that resembles a traditional rug, symbolizing warmth, heritage, and protection. Her striking red lips and intense gaze add a sense of mystery and confidence, while the makeup enhances the natural beauty of her skin, celebrating its unique texture.
This shoot was all about contrasts—softness and strength, tradition and modernity, subtlety and boldness. The lighting was intentionally moody, focusing on shadows and highlights to create depth and emotion. The result is a series of images that feel both intimate and cinematic, inviting the viewer to engage with the subject’s story.
