Autumn Notaro: Misty Mountain Romance

CALEB SCHAFTLEIN,

Could you please provide us with a professional introduction about yourself and your photography work?

I’m Autumn, the artist behind Team Notaro Photography, and I’m not just here to take pictures—I’m here to create art. My approach to wedding photography is all about capturing bold, dramatic, and deeply emotional imagery for couples who want something different. If you’re drawn to the moody, cinematic, and breathtakingly real, we’re going to be a perfect fit.

I don’t just document weddings; I craft visual stories that feel like poetry—raw, passionate, and full of life. I seek out the stolen glances, the electric chemistry, and the moments that make time stand still. My style isn’t about stiff poses or forced smiles; it’s about movement, light, and atmosphere. I thrive in the unplanned, the windswept, and the wildly romantic, using creative compositions and dramatic lighting to turn your love into a masterpiece

Can you tell us about how you got started in photography?

I got my first camera in 2015, but it wasn’t until the world came to a standstill in 2020 that I truly embraced my passion.

What was your passion driving you during your journey? Who or what prompted you to begin?

As a nurse during the pandemic I was surrounded by uncertainty, fear, and heartbreak every day, and I needed an outlet—something that brought light into the darkness. That’s when I threw myself headfirst into wedding photography, capturing love, joy, and the raw, emotional moments that make life beautiful.

Could you walk us through your photoshoot planning process?

I tailor each photoshoot to reflect my clients' unique energy and personalities. By getting to know what matters most to them, I weave their individuality into our session, ensuring every image feels authentic and deeply personal.

As a photography expert, what sets your work apart from other photographers?

What sets me apart? I’m anything but cookie-cutter. I stray from the typical, just-pretty wedding photography and dive into something deeper—something *bold*. I don’t just capture love; I capture passion, desire, and the raw energy between my couples. With a keen eye for dramatic lighting and artistic composition, I craft scenes that transform your moments into striking, cinematic imagery. For those who want more than just photos—who want *art*—I’m here to create something unforgettable.

Where do you get your ideas for photoshoots?

I find inspiration everywhere—from the way shadows dance across a room to the forgotten corners of a well-loved book. Even a simple, imaginative play session with my kids can ignite my creativity, setting my mind in motion. I embrace those sparks and let them shape my artistry, always seeking new ways to bring depth, emotion, and originality into my work.

Can you tell us about the most memorable moment you've had as a photographer and what experience you gained from that?

One of my most memorable moments was attending one of the largest wedding and portrait photography conventions for the first time. I walked in not knowing what to expect, but I left feeling more inspired than ever to create. It was there that I truly realized, *“Comparison is the thief of joy.”* Instead of measuring myself against others, I embraced my own artistic voice and set out to be in a league of my own—pushing creative boundaries and crafting images that feel bold, passionate, and undeniably unique.

What are the most important components of an extraordinary photograph, in your opinion?

Extraordinary photograph goes beyond technical perfection—it evokes emotion, tells a story, and leaves a lasting impression. Strong composition, creative use of light and shadow, and a sense of movement bring depth and energy to an image. Authentic connection and unique perspective make it feel real, while thoughtful post-processing enhances the mood. The best photos break the mold.

How do you strike a balance between your artistic expression and your client's expectations during a shoot?

I balance my artistic vision with my clients’ expectations through trust, communication, and creative adaptability. By understanding their vibe and must-have moments, I guide the session with my signature moody, dramatic style while keeping it natural. I create space for real emotions to unfold, crafting bold, artistic images that feel both deeply personal and unexpected in the best way.

How do other artists influence your work? Are there any other photographers you look up to? Who?

Other artists inspire me to see the world through different lenses—both literally and creatively. Their unique perspectives push me to experiment, refine my craft, and step outside my comfort zone. I cannot pinpoint one specific artist, its more so the feel I get when I see a piece that speaks to me i listen.

How do you enhance your vision after a session by post-processing your photos? Do you have a best-kept secret for editing processing that you'd like to share?

Post-processing is where I refine and elevate my vision. I enhance the mood with thoughtful color grading, deep shadows, and rich contrast to bring out the drama and emotion in each shot. The key isn’t over-editing but enhancing what’s already there—making the moment feel as immersive and cinematic as it did in real life.

What are your top tips for aspiring photographers on skill development and finding their own creative voice? How did you develop yours?

Keep shooting, keep experimenting, and don’t be afraid to fail—growth comes from persistence. Your creative voice won’t emerge overnight, but through trial, mistakes, and trusting your instincts. Creativity is everywhere if you’re open to seeing it, so stay curious, stay passionate, and let your work be a true reflection of you.

Can you tell me about an upcoming project you're working on and the idea behind it?

I’m currently casting models, hmua, and designers for my Global Vows: Love in all Languages series. This project will be a visual celebration of love, culture, and identity through the lens of high-fashion wedding and engagement photography. It represents the beauty of diversity in the wedding industry, breaking away from conventional standards to highlight underrepresented cultures in an elegant, editorial way. By blending couture styling with rich cultural heritage, the project seeks to redefine what luxury wedding imagery looks like—embracing authenticity, tradition, and modern sophistication. More than just a styled shoot, this is a statement: that love is universal, representation matters, and every culture deserves to be seen and celebrated in its most breathtaking form.

Can you tell us the story behind creating the photographs you submitted?

This shoot marked the very first chapter of my Global Vow series. an homage to Indian culture through the lens of an interracial couple, capturing the elegance of tradition intertwined with modern romance.

Set against the dramatic backdrop of mountains and the vast, open shoreline, these images symbolize the universality of love. The bride’s golden lehenga, rich with intricate details, represents heritage and tradition, while the groom’s classic black tuxedo brings in a timeless sophistication. The wind, mist, and gentle snowfall weren’t just environmental elements—they became part of the story, adding movement, emotion, and an almost dreamlike quality.
