Evelina Macovei: Multiple Views

CALEB SCHAFTLEIN,

Could you please provide us with a professional introduction about yourself and your photography work? I started doing photography thanks to my bigger brother that has always seen talent in me. I used to continuously take photos just as a natural instinct. It didn’t mean much to me, but for him did. He convinced my mother to buy me a camera together and all of it started.

Can you tell us about how you got started in photography? My passion drives herself into my photographic journey, it’s independent and free, it’s wild and that’s the the reason why I’m an enthusiast photographer.

What was your passion driving you during your journey? Who or what prompted you to begin?

My creation process starts always in a randomly way, maybe because of a dress, maybe thanks to a sculpture, a painting or an object I find somewhere. Then I do my researches, find my team and start.

Could you walk us through your photoshoot planning process?

I would define myself curious and enthusiast, but also a lover of the technical part of photography. I don’t know if that sets your work apart from other photographers, but I know that is my highlight.

As a photography expert, what sets your work apart from other photographers?

As I said before my creation process starts randomly, but it keeps getting stronger and stronger during the journey. I do a lot of research online and leafing through books, but most of all, hunting treasures around flee markets is my secret. Flee markets don’t have time and are not influenced by the trends of the moment, that gives me the power to find timeless things and alta moda clothes for my shootings.

Where do you get your ideas for photoshoots?

I have a lot of memorable moment from my photographic career. Maybe the most beautiful one was when I had my first exposition, seeing so much people coming to see my art and my dearest ones supporting me all together was a feeling that overwhelmed me, in a positive way of course. Another moment was when I had my first work with an Alta Moda brand, Fendi in this case. It was a sign that I was walking through the right path of my life.

Can you tell us about the most memorable moment you've had as a photographer and what experience you gained from that?

Balancing my vision with the clients one is not always easy. I’m an eclectic photographer which is not a easy aspect to understand, but at the same time I love to understand others visions and to mix them to mine. I select the most important points of their idea and I respect them and then I mix the rest with mines.

What are the most important components of an extraordinary photograph, in your opinion?

The photographers that inspire me the most are Halsman and Bresson, but I have to say, that after working with Albert Watson, I’ve had a revelation about photography, the way he looks for light, he manage the communication with people and understands portraits is unique.

How do you strike a balance between your artistic expression and your client's expectations during a shoot?

Post-producing photos is a huge part of my creation. I shoot visioning the work I’ll do then in the editing software. My secret is to know from the start the photo you want and to prepare the base of the photo shooting something that you already know how will come from your pc, no adding huge things in post, but defining them, like a sketch and the final painting.

. How do other artists influence your work? Are there any other photographers you look up to? Who?

Photographers are always challenged, we always manage a lot of situations. To know how to put all the things together is what makes you a professional.

Can you tell us about the most difficult photographic challenge you've ever had, including lighting, unexpected situations, and how you managed the issues on set?

My advice for aspiring photographers is to keep their eyes opened. You can understand photography looking around you. Look for lights, compositions, interesting faces, keep yourself trained and when you like something interesting shoot it, it documents your journey and evolution.

What is your favorite piece of work you've ever shot?

My favourite shots will be published on bleach fil soon :)

Can you tell me about an upcoming project you're working on and the idea behind it?
